Fall means football and hockey season for young athletes across the GTA. With more time on the field and ice, it’s also important for parents and coaches to know the signs of a concussion.
A concussion can happen after a hit to the head, neck or body and doesn’t always involve losing consciousness. Symptoms may include headaches, dizziness, nausea, balance problems, sensitivity to light or noise, difficulty concentrating, fatigue or feeling “foggy.”
If a concussion is suspected, the athlete should be removed from play and properly assessed before returning to sport.
How Can Physiotherapy Help?
Concussion recovery is different for every athlete. Physiotherapy may help address symptoms such as neck pain, headaches, dizziness, balance difficulties and exercise intolerance, while supporting a gradual return to activity.
At Nobleton Physiotherapy, our team can help create an individualized rehabilitation plan to support your young athlete as they work toward returning to school, exercise and eventually the sport they love.
Don’t rush the comeback. Build it properly.
If your child has experienced a suspected or diagnosed concussion this football or hockey season, contact Nobleton Physiotherapy to learn more or book an assessment.
